a.  Sponsors:  This program is co-sponsored for Military and Federal GETN subscribers by the School of Public Health, University at Albany, SUNY and Department of Defense Medical Interagency Satellite Program with the  technical support of the Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, VA. 

 

b.  Availability:  This program will be available to military and federal GETN/MIST sites that have GETN/ATN/Warrior digital satellite downlinks.  A listing of potential GETN receive sites can be seen here: GETN Site Location.    

 

MIST affiliate satellite networks such as the VA’s Employee Education System and the Department of Justice Television Network may also carry this program but IAW with their own scheduling.

 

There is NO C/Ku Band Analog satellite availability for this program. 

 

Videoconferencing may be available to selected military and federal VTC sites using the USA TNET or the USN CNET networks and other VTC networks able to connect to this satellite feed.  Site coordinators using VTC are responsible for their own bridge coordination.

c.  Target Audience Statement:  The target audiences for this program will be military and federal, city and county public health officials, policy makers as well as others who are interested in furthering their knowledge this subject.

d.  Program  Summary:  As public health officials, how can we best address the needs of a growing population in an ever changing environment?  Public health leaders are already involved in a wide array of health promotion, prevention and disease management programs from AIDS to zoonoses, anti-smoking and immunization campaigns, safe food and water inspections, plus bioterrorism preparedness.  But now, as we learn more about the social determinants of health: education, income, housing and transportation – we need to examine an even broader framework for public health action in our communities, large and small.  In this program we’ll discuss these new challenges for public health professionals.  This program will document and celebrate the important work and achievements of public health today. It will also examine future needs and challenges.

Speaker:  Jo Ivey Boufford, MD, President New York Academy of Medicine - Jo Ivey Boufford, MD, a pediatrician, is President of the New York Academy of Medicine.  She has a wide ranging history of involvement in promoting the public’s health through her leadership of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation; her role as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health in the Clinton Administration and her international health experience as member of the WHO Executive Board and work on global health systems and workforce.

e.  CME, Nursing Contact Hours and CHES Credits:  Are available for participation in this program.  To receive continuing education credits for University at Albany satellite broadcasts, you must:

   1.  View the broadcast live; as an archived, online webcast; or on video.

2.      Complete the on-line evaluation and post-test (web-address in final confirmation).

3.      Achieve a grade of 80% correct on the post-test.

You will be able to print a certificate for CME, Nursing Contact Hours, CHES or generic CEUs for your records.

 

This Educational Activity is presented by the School of Public Health Continuing Education, which has been approved as a provider of continuing education by the New York State Nurses Association’s Council on Continuing Education, which is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  It has been approved for 1.0 contact hours and has been assigned approval code 5RLL8T-PRV-04-073.

The School of Public Health, University at Albany, SUNY, is accredited by the Medical Society of the State of New York to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.  The School designates this educational activity for 1.0 Category One credit towards the AMA Physician
s Recognition Award.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

This activity is sponsored by the School of Public Health, University at Albany, SUNY, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.  This program is designated for the CHES to receive 1.0 Category 1 CECH in health education.
