b. Program Summary:
"Youth Recovery is
a 60 minute previously recorded program, by the Peers Partnership, that features
youth in front of and behind the camera. Students work on every aspect of the
production, the only youth national broadcast in the country.
High school students face all kinds of pressure; getting into the right college,
the next Bio test, Mom and Dad, pressure from friends. The young person
who is in recovery from alcohol or drug abuse has those and so much more to deal
with. How do they do it? This production explores what it is like for
youth in recovery including Native American Youth in Arizona.
c. Program Objectives: College Youth and other audiences watching this program will learn:
How high school youth speak to their peers about the life of a teenager in recovery from drug or alcohol abuse.
How to increase peer sensitivity to others who are suffering from a drug or alcohol dependency.
How Native American Indian Youth face drug and alcohol use issues both on and off the reservations.
How at-risk students will become more aware of resources they have to help themselves.
How drinking effects behavior and academic success in todays schools.
d Target Audience Statement: Target audiences include high school students, teachers and faculty, school administrators, school health care workers and parents.
e. Availability: This free, public domain program will be available on C-Band Analog satellite downlinks. No analog KU coordinates will be available. i. Videotape Availability: The Peers Influence Peers Partnership (PIPP) is a small, non-profit organization with very limited resources. The overwhelming popularity of the student produced programs they offer frequently result in a high number of requests for video tapes and/or DVD copies. Unfortunately, they only can offer a few free copies for each program. Once those are gone, they must charge a small handling fee to cover the costs of the tape, duplication and shipping and handling. The charges are $10 for VHS or DVD, $20 for SVHS, and $75.00 for Beta SP.
