a. Sponsors: ComNET is the product of an interagency program effort from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Preparedness Directorate, bringing together the Office of Grants and Training (G&T) and the Preparedness Network (PREPnet). ComNET is produced by the National Terrorism Prepardness Institute, a division of the Southeastern Public Safety Institute at St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, Florida. Additional support is furnished by the US Army Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, VA.
b. Availability: This FREE, public domain, videotaped program will be available as scheduled on C/KU analog satellite downlinks and on the Military/Federal CDV GETN Convergent digital satellite networks. A live web cast and later archived webcast version will also be available using Windows Media Player. GETN/Convergent digital satellite downlinks are found at over 1200 military installations and federal office locations. Other federal and private satellite networks may also carry this program. In addition, the program may be available to a limited number of non-satellite capable military and federal sites via VTC terrestrial relay. Local site use coordination of satellite downlinks will be required.
Will this program be web streamed: Yes, this program will be available in a live and archived version. Details will be furnished in the final coordination message upon registration. You no longer have to create a user account name and password to access the webcasts.
c. Target Audience Statement: The primary target audience includes federal, state and local law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services (EMS), emergency management, and public works. Secondary audiences for this program include federal, state, and local police academies, university police, military police/security units, military emergency preparedness officials, National Guard Civil Support Teams, sheriff’s offices and public health officials.
d. Program Summary: Feature Stories for 28 June, 2006 ComNET program include:
Intelligence Toolbox Training: The School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, offers a course designed to help law enforcement agencies sustain an intelligence capacity. ComNET travels to the Spokane, WA to find out about this unique Grants & Training sponsored course.
Advanced Chemical/Biological Integrated Response Course: The ACBIRC course is designed to provide a hands-on environment focused on chemical and biological detection, signature, and sampling to enhance first responder readiness. ComNET visits Dugway Proving Ground and talks to instructors and participants about this rigorous Grants & Training sponsored course.
Bioshield 2006: In the event of a bioterrorism incident, public health workers will need to know how to effectively manage and distribute much needed medical supplies, including prophylaxis and vaccines. ComNET attends the Bioshield 2006 exercise in Florida to find out more about how the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and Points of Distribution (POD) will prepare Florida’s communities for pharmaceutical distribution.
Isolation and Quarantine: Nebraska is leading the way in bioterrorism preparedness with its biocontainment unit. ComNET travels to Omaha, NE to tour this one-of-a-kind 10-bed unit, set up to handle highly contagious and deadly infectious conditions.
e. CEUs, CMEs, Certificates: We are pleased to announce that you may earn continuing education units or CEUs for viewing ComNET programs. To register for CEUs, go to the NTPI website and click on “CEUs Online”. This link will take you through the registration process, evaluation and the program test. With a test grade of 75% or better, you will receive a CEU certificate via e-mail or U.S. mail.
