a.  Sponsors:  ComNET  is the product of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Preparedness Directorate, Office of Grants and Training (G&T).  ComNET is produced by the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute, a department at St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, Florida.  Additional support is furnished by the Army National Guard and the US Army Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, Va.  

 

b.  Availability:  This FREE, public domain, previously recorded program will be available as scheduled on the Military/Federal CDV GETN digital satellite networks.  All programs are archived and available for later viewing from the website using Windows Media Players http://terrorism.spcollege.eduGETN/Convergent digital satellite downlinks are found at selected military and federal installations and at over 285+ National Guard locations at Joint Force HQs and other ANG/ARNG locations and classrooms.  Other federal and private satellite networks, including the Department of Justice and the Veteran’s Administration may also carry this program.  The program may also be available to a limited number of non-satellite capable military sites via VTC terrestrial relay using the USA TNET or USN CNET VTC networks.  Local site use coordination of satellite downlinks will be required.  Contact Ed Kronholm, the Satellite Registrations Coordinator, toll free at 877-820-0305 or 888-820-4898, if you have a question or problem locating a site. 

 

  c.  Target Audience Statement:  The primary target audience includes federal, state and local law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services (EMS), emergency management, and public works.  Secondary audiences for this program include federal, state, and local police academies, university police, military police/security units, military emergency preparedness officials, National Guard Civil Support Teams, sheriff’s offices and public health officials.

Feature Stories for 28 February 2007 ComNET program include:

Intelligence Fusion and Analysis: When law enforcement agencies have and effective and efficient way to exchange intelligence information, they improve their ability to fight crime and terrorism.  ComNET explores the FBI’s Intelligence Directorate and Intelligence Fusion Centers, and how they make a difference in piecing together the intelligence puzzle.

Improvised Explosive Devices: Suicide bombs, car bombs, and package bombs are all types of improvised explosive devices.  ComNET explains some of the characteristics of IEDs and motivations behind those who use them.

Detection of Bio-Threat Agents: There are many tools and resources available for emergency responders to detect bio-threat agents.  ComNET attends the Second National Conference on Environmental Sampling and Detection of Threat Agents and talks to leading experts on bio-threat detection.

WMD Radiological Nuclear Course for Hazardous Materials Technicians: Knowing how to work in a high radiation area, and rescue contaminated victims, during realistic drills are some of the highlights of this four-day Office of Grants and Training sponsored course.  ComNET visits the Nevada Test Site and finds out how HazMat technicians gain important hands-on experience.

e.  CEUs, CMEs, Certificates:  We are pleased to announce that you may earn continuing education units or CEUs for viewing ComNET programs.  To register for CEUs, go to the NTPI website and click on “CEUs Online”.  This link will take you through the registration process, evaluation and the program test.  With a test grade of 75% or better, you will receive a CEU certificate via e-mail or U.S. mail.
