Agroterrorism Preparedness Training for Frontline Responders:
“How to Prevent, Respond and Recover from an Agroterrorism Attack”
From dairy farmers to school lunch program administrators, this 6-course training program offers a wealth of practical information to help you prevent and respond to a possible agroterrorism attack in your community. In June, Live Response takes a look at the UC Davis Western Institute for Food Safety and Security training program to explore a comprehensive curriculum that has already reached well over 4,000 participants in 15 states. It’s a specialized training program designed to enhance preparedness at the front lines to attacks on our agricultural industry. The 6-course offerings include: Understanding the Dangers of Agroterrorism; the Principles of Preparedness for Agroterrorism and Food Systems Disasters; Principles of Detection and Diagnosis – Strategies and Technologies; Principles of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Team Building and Risk Communication; Principles of Frontline Response to Agroterrorism and Food Systems Disasters; and Principles of Planning and Implementing Recovery.
Key Learning Objectives for this Program:
· Gain an awareness of the potential threats and targets of agroterrorism.
· Describe the principles of preparedness that are applicable to communities.
· Identify the roles of Federal, State, local and tribal agencies in responding to an agroterrorism attack.
· Describe the benefits of planning, rehearsing and testing recovery responses in your community.
Highlighted Program: The Western Institute for Food Safety & Security (WIFSS) combines the expertise of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the California Department of Health Services, University of California, private industry and federal agencies. Its goal is to enhance preparedness at the front lines to potential attacks on agriculture or food systems by weapons of mass destruction.
