a.  Sponsors:   ComNET  is the product of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Preparedness Directorate, Office of Grants and Training (G&T).  ComNET is produced by the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute, a department at St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, Florida.  Additional support is furnished by the Army National Guard and the US Army Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, Va.

b.  Availability:  This FREE,  public domain, previously recorded program will be available as scheduled on C/KU analog satellite downlinks and on the Military/Federal GETN/CDV Convergent digital satellite networks.  A live web-cast with a closed captioning option will also be available at http://terrorism.spcollege.edu.  All programs are archived and available for later viewing from the website using Windows Media Players.  GETN/Convergent digital satellite downlinks are found at selected military and federal installations and at over 285+ National Guard locations at Joint Force HQs and other ANG/ARNG locations and classrooms.  Other federal and private satellite networks, including the Department of Justice and the Veteran’s Administration may also carry this program.  The program may also be available to a limited number of non-satellite capable military sites via VTC terrestrial relay using the USA TNET or USN CNET VTC networks.  Local site use coordination of satellite downlinks will be required.  Contact Ed Kronholm, the Satellite Registrations Coordinator, toll free at 877-820-0305 or 888-820-4898, if you have a question or problem locating a site.

d.  Sponsor Program Description:  ComNET is a recurring bi-monthly videotaped satellite broadcast offering terrorism related awareness information to the nation’s civilian and military emergency response communities.

Feature Stories for 25 April 2007 ComNET program include:

Port Security Access Control:  As part of the February ComNET, we explored Port Security Access Control on Land.  In Part 2 of our series, ComNET explores some of the safety measures of access control on the waterways.

Emergency Communications and Operations Center:  The Hernando County, Florida, Emergency Communications and Operations Center is an example of cooperation and interoperability by design.  ComNET will be there to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of this model ECOC.

NOAA Weather Radio:  Knowing when a warning has been issued is crucial to life safety.  ComNET attends a tornado drill and discusses the all-hazard uses of the NOAA Weather Radio.

Emergency Management Assistance Compact:  When a Governor issues a state of emergency, resources are needed quickly.  If plans are in place, EMAC can provide assistance from neighboring states.  ComNET discusses EMAC and its role in interstate mutual aid.
