It is a representative listing of free, interagency satellite programming whose delivery is coordinated by our offices for primarily Federal and Military downlink sites that use digital compressed video (CDV) satellite downlinks within the Military/Federal Government Education and Training (GETN) satellite networks. GETN Networks are closed, private, encrypted satellite networks. Some programs may also be available to non-military or non- federal civilian sites via analog C/Ku satellite downlinks that are found at many civilian locations and some military/federal sites. “Skin Care Update”
A DOD-MIST
Program For Military/Federal No CE Credits |
GETN-CDV |
The older you get, the
more important it is to take care of your skin as the skin becomes
thinner, begins to sag, causes wrinkles and injures more easily and heals
more slowly. Proper skin care is important for both our physical and
mental health. For instance, skin infection in a diabetic patient
can lead to the serious complication of gangrene. Those who are
bedridden need to avoid prolonged pressure on the ankles, heels and
buttock. Too much pressure can tear the thin skin leading to
bedsores. And itchiness, a very common problem among the elderly,
can be so irritating as to affect how we feel. Therefore, the
elderly and caregivers should know about proper skin care. |

“Keeping our Children Safe & Secure: Pandemic Flu & Emergency

Scientists predict that the
world is due for an influenza pandemic—a global outbreak from a new strain
of flu—that would have a dramatic impact on our nation’s communities,
schools, and families. History tells us that flu pandemics are a reality:
in the past century alone, three of them caused widespread loss of life
and the wholesale disruption of societies small and large. A flu outbreak
today similar to the one that occurred in 1918 could potentially kill
millions and profoundly affect institutions such as our nation’s school
systems, which are teeming with children who are expected to have high
rates of infection and are more likely than adults to spread the illness. Expanded description at: Pan Flu & Emergency Preparedness 09 Apr 07 |

An
influenza pandemic occurs when a new virus emerges for which people have

While it is difficult to predict when the next influenza pandemic will

about the social determinants of health: education, income, housing and

Stable angina, chest pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart
muscle, is a common disorder affecting approximately 6.5 million people in
the United States. Although associated with diminished quality of
life and increased risk for future cardiovascular events, stable angina is
often not perceived as an eminent threat. Practice guidelines for
the management of chronic stable angina were published by the American
Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA) in 2003.
However, guideline-recommended treatments for stable angina are

Stable angina, chest pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart

the United States. Although associated with diminished quality of
life and increased risk for future cardiovascular events, stable angina is
often not perceived as an eminent threat. Practice guidelines for
the management of chronic stable angina were published by the American

However, guideline-recommended treatments for stable angina are
underutilized and anginal symptoms are not adequately controlled in nearly
a third of patients.

Taking a thorough sexual history can also be a gateway for direct

the clinicians, are embarrassed or feel uncomfortable talking about sexual
issues. It is important for the provider to be competent and
professionally skilled in talking with the patient(s) in a non-threatening
manner, to find out what problems exist, and uncover the appropriate
background information and clinical history. With the right
consultation tools, a sexual history can be performed efficiently when

“Live Response: Restoration of Lifelines” Available to both civilian, military & federal sites….. CE Credits |
GETN-CDV |
After a natural or
manmade disaster, essential services may be lost. Restoration of
lifelines requires identification of communities, public sector, and
economic entities affected by loss of energy and infrastructure. Live
Response explores how emergency response and recovery activities are
restored and essential lifeline services for affected populations are
established. Live Response
expert guests welcome viewer questions concerning Restoration of
Lifelines and invite viewers to submit their questions via
phone, e-mail, or fax during the broadcast. |

You’d
think everyone would know how dangerous methamphetamine is and how toxic
the labs are, but not everyone does. In the heat of the moment, some

“Under the

Drugs cause people to
do strange things. While some drugs make people feel mellow, others
lead to hyperactivity and everything in between. Sometimes people act
"drunk" but there is no alcohol in the system, signaling other drugs might
be the cause. Usage of multiple types of drugs mixes the symptoms,
making things even more difficult. What's a first responder, new law
enforcement officer, parent, teacher, or concerned citizen to do when
encountering someone who is exhibiting strange behaviors that you just
can't figure out? |

“2007 Update: Symptom Management Strategies for Stable Angina” (Repeat)
A DOD-MIST Program For Military/Federal |
GETN-CDV |
Stable angina, chest pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart
muscle, is a common disorder affecting approximately 6.5 million people in
the United States. Although associated with diminished quality of
life and increased risk for future cardiovascular events, stable angina is
often not perceived as an eminent threat. Practice guidelines for
the management of chronic stable angina were published by the American
Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA) in 2003.
However, guideline-recommended treatments for stable angina are
underutilized and anginal symptoms are not adequately controlled in nearly
a third of patients. |

“Mass Shelters: Environmental Health Issues” (New)
A DOD-MIST Program For Military/Federal No CE Credits |
GETN-CDV |
Hurricanes are just one example of a catastrophic event when the public
health workforce must be ready to set up, staff and manage shelters for
those displaced by the disaster. Maintaining appropriate
environmental health standards is one of many considerations for those
responsible in setting up the shelters. Broadcast faculty will
examine the example of two mega shelters set up in Houston in the
aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Issues to be discussed
include food safety, housekeeping and sanitation procedures, infection and
outbreak control, pet shelters, and communication and staffing, including
the screening and management of volunteers.
