d. Program Summary: Flexible Spending
Accounts are a new benefit for Federal Employees that enable you to save 20-40
percent on health care and dependent care expenses, depending upon your tax
situation. Using pre-tax dollars that you set aside to pay for eligible
expenses, you get a substantial discount on many common expenses that you'd pay
for anyway -- vision, dental and orthodontia, childcare, co-pays, deductibles,
and many more.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has awarded the contract to administer
this program, called FSAFEDS, to SHPS, one of the nation's largest Flexible
Spending Account administrators. The FASFEDS Open Season for the 2004 plan
year will be from November 10 through December 8, 2003, in conjunction with the
Open Season for Federal Employee Health Benefits.
In this broadcast, OPM's Laurie Bodenheimer and an FSAFEDS representative will
join host Terri McDonald to explain key program features, covered expenses, the
open season, and where to get additional information during open season.
This program is a must for Administrative Officers and Human Resource Staff, as
well as employees interested in taking advantage of this benefit.
