c.  Target Audience Statement: 

Public Health Department Staff of Local and State Health Departments
:  Immunization coordinators, Bioterrorism staff (planners and trainers), communicable disease staff, laboratory staff, disease investigation staff, managers and other staff who will be involved in pandemic response, distance learning facilitators.

Additional State Staff: Immunization Branch field representatives, Bioterrorism staff (Emergency Preparedness Office, Department of Health Services, Emergency Medical Services Authority), Division of Communicable Disease Control staff.

Private Sector Providers and Clinicians: doctors, hospitals, laboratories, public and private sector organizations and partners with a role in responding to a pandemic influenza.

d.  Program Summary:  This satellite broadcast of a live training seminar, in Richmond, California, will provide essential information and highlight the interventions needed to minimize the consequences of a pandemic event.  An optional tabletop exercise will accompany this broadcast to provide participants an opportunity for interaction during a mock pandemic outbreak.

Program Objectives: 

- Describe two measures that reduce the transmission of influenza.
- Name an issue related to the availability of vaccine during an influenza pandemic.
- Name an issue related to the availability of anti-virals during an influenza pandemic.
- Identify at least one way that the laboratory is involved in responding to a pandemic influenza emergency.
- Identify at least one non-medical intervention to decrease the spread of a pandemic influenza emergency.
- Explain why it is essential to collaborate with outside agencies during a pandemic influenza emergency.
