a.  Sponsors:  This program is co-sponsored for Military and Federal GETN subscribers by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Defense Medical Interagency Satellite Program with the technical support of the Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, VA.  

b.  Availability:  This program will be available to military and federal GETN/MIST sites that have GETN/ATN/Warrior digital satellite downlinks.  A listing of potential GETN receive sites can be seen here: GETN Site Location.      

MIST affiliate satellite networks such as the VA’s Employee Education System and the Department of Justice Television Network may also carry this program but IAW with their own scheduling. 

There is No C/Ku Band Analog satellite available for this pre-recorded program. 

Videoconferencing may be available to selected military and federal VTC sites using the USA TNET or the USN CNET networks and other VTC networks able to connect to this satellite feed.  Site coordinators using VTC are responsible for their own bridge coordination.

c.  Target Audience Statement:  Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, DOD paraprofessionals, pharmacists, health educators and their colleagues who either administer vaccines or set policy for their offices, clinics, communicable disease, or infection control programs. Military, private and public healthcare personnel, including pediatricians, family practice specialists, residents, and medical and nursing students.

d.  Program Summary:  This taped broadcast and webcast will update healthcare personnel on current adult immunization recommendations.  The broadcast will describe the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases among adults in the United States, highlight the 2006-2007 Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule, and describe strategies to improve adult vaccination coverage levels. The program will include a discussion of vaccines routinely recommended for adults, including influenza, pneumococcal, Tdap, human papillomavirus and herpes zoster.  The program will also address vaccines recommended for healthcare personnel and identify resources relevant to vaccine recommendations for international travel.  

e.  Program Objectives:  After this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in adults in the United States.
  • Name the vaccines routinely recommended for adults, including healthcare personnel.
  • Identify two strategies to increase adult vaccination rates.
  • Locate resources relevant to vaccine recommendations for international travelers.
