a. Sponsors: This program is co-sponsored for
Military and Federal GETN subscribers by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and the Department of Defense Medical Interagency Satellite Program
with the technical support of the Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee,
VA.
b. Availability: This program will be available to military and federal GETN/MIST sites that have GETN/ATN/Warrior digital satellite downlinks. A listing of potential GETN receive sites can be seen here: GETN Site Location.
MIST affiliate satellite networks such as the VA’s Employee Education System and the Department of Justice Television Network may also carry this program but IAW with their own scheduling.
There is No C/Ku Band Analog satellite for this program.
Videoconferencing may be available to selected military and federal VTC sites using the USA TNET or the USN CNET networks and other VTC networks able to connect to this satellite feed. Site coordinators using VTC are responsible for their own bridge coordination.

c. Target Audience Statement: Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, DOD paraprofessionals, pharmacists, health educators and their colleagues who either administer vaccines or set policy for their offices, clinics, communicable disease, or infection control programs. Military, private and public healthcare personnel, including pediatricians, family practice specialists, residents, and medical and nursing students.
d. Program Summary: This pre-recorded broadcast is an annual offering providing a comprehensive overview on immunization presented in four parts.
Session One will cover principles of vaccination, general recommendations on immunization, and vaccine storage, handling, and administration and vaccine safety.
Session Two will cover pertussis, pneumococcal disease (childhood), polio, rotavirus, and Hib.
Session Three will cover measles, rubella, varicella, zoster, and meningococcal disease.
Session Four will cover hepatitis B, hepatitis A, influenza, HPV, and pneumococcal disease (adult).
Each of the four sessions can be viewed independently for CE credit.
e. Program Objectives: At the conclusion of this self-study series, participants will be able to:
· Describe the difference between active and passive immunity.
· List two characteristics of live attenuated vaccines.
· List two characteristics of inactivated vaccines.
· Describe each vaccine-preventable disease, including the causative agent for the disease.
· List the groups at highest risk for each vaccine-preventable disease.
· Identify those for whom routine immunization is recommended for each vaccine-preventable disease.
· Describe characteristics of the vaccine used to prevent each disease. (Characteristics may include schedule, contraindications and/or adverse reactions).

h. CEs, CMEs, Certificates: To receive continuing education (CE) credit, you must use the On Line System. See the confirmation sent after registration. CE Credit for all courses expires December 31, 2007.
i. DVD/Videotape Availability: None, sites should tape from broadcast.

There are no copyright restrictions on these program, however they MAY NOT be videotaped and re-broadcast where fees are attached to its showing.
