b.  Availability:  This program will be available to military and federal GETN/MIST sites that have GETN/ATN/Warrior digital satellite downlinks.   

MIST affiliate satellite networks such as the VA’s Employee Education System and the Department of Justice Television Network may also carry this program but IAW with their own scheduling requirements.

Videoconferencing availability may be available to selected military and federal VTC sites using the USA TNET or the USN CNET networks and other VTC networks able to connect to this satellite feed.   Site coordinators using VTC are responsible for their own bridge coordination.

c.  Target Audience Statement:  Primarily for health aides and attendants, but secondary audiences also include state or local public health workers, nurses, physicians/clinicians, business/community/civic leaders, environmental health professionals, health educators, laboratory professionals, law enforcement, occupational/ industrial professionals, planners, policy makers/analysts, students (MPH and other graduate/post graduate). 

d.  Program  Summaries:  As the home health care industry has grown and expanded, the need for a planned, organized approach to infection control has become increasingly important.  Home health aides provide a wide range of care to home bound patients and must be aware of the routes of disease transmission, the importance of using Standard Precautions to decrease job related exposures to infectious diseases, and proper hand hygiene.  This program is designed to provide the basic principles necessary for infection control to be successful and how these principles are applied in the health care setting. 

Learning Objectives:   

1.  Define hand hygiene and its importance in preventing the spread of disease.
2.  List three products that may used for disinfection in the home and other health settings.
3.  List two or more or the common multi-drug resistant organisms.
4.  Discuss the importance o personal protective equipment to the healthcare worker.
