a.  Sponsors:  This program is co-sponsored for Military and Federal GETN subscribers by The American Heart Association and Department of Defense Medical Interagency Satellite Program with the technical support of the Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, VA. 

b.  Availability:  This program will be available to military and federal GETN/MIST sites that have GETN/ATN/Warrior digital satellite downlinks.  A listing of potential GETN receive sites can be seen here: GETN Site Location

MIST affiliate satellite networks such as the VA’s Employee Education System and the Department of Justice Television Network may also carry this program but IAW with their own scheduling. 

There is No C Band analog satellite available for this repeat program. 

Videoconferencing may be available to selected military and federal VTC sites using the USA TNET or the USN CNET networks and other VTC networks able to connect to this satellite feed.  Site coordinators using VTC are responsible for their own bridge coordination.

c.  Target Audience Statement:  The target audience for this program is cardiologists, internists, hospital physicians, primary care providers, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals involved in the care and treatment of patients with CVD.

d.  Program  Description:  "Best of Sessions 2006" focuses on key presentations made at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions in Chicago, IL.  The main topics highlighted are Translational Science, Secondary Prevention of CVD, Late-Breaking News in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Late-Breaking Clinical Trial Results.  Recent advances in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of CVD and Stroke are also discussed.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

·        Discuss the role of inflammation on patient obesity.
·        Determine when to us antiplatelets, antithrombotics or both antiplatelets and antithrombotics with fibrillation patients.
·        Recommend treatment for their heart failure patients when therapy has be optimized.
·        Explain the cardioprotection mechanism of wine.
·        Summarize the results of recent late-breaking clinical trials.
